When it comes to building a wooden jewelry box, it can be as easy as 1, 2, 3 or it can be as difficult as 56*99. It all just depends on the how it's done.
The first step in making a wooden jewelry box is to decide how you want the box to look like. Getting a general idea of what you want the finished product to look like is a great idea. This is not only helpful in visualizing the final product, but it also helps to find which materials you will need.
For example if you wanted to build a girls jewelry box painted white with pink flowers then you would assume that you are going to need at least wood, white and pink paint, and a paint brush.
The whole idea is to just get a general picture of what you want the jewelry box to look idea to look like. The best way to do this is to brainstorm and pick out which characteristics that you like. The whole idea is to imagine what it will look like when it is all said and done.
After you have a superior design of how you want your jewelry box to look, it is the point in time to make an inventory of all of the resources that you will need. Some of the most essential resources that I use all the time are: wood (I usually use cherry, oak, cedar or mahogany, these types of woods are apt to provide me enhanced looking boxes),screws or nails (my individual liking is to dove tail the boxes but I do make use of finishing nails a lot as well),wood glue, a spray adhesive, a saw ( I try to use a jig saw, band saw and a chop saw), sand paper/ sander(I use a fine grit and rough grit) u can use a hand saw if this is all that you have access to), hammer, two small hinges, measuring tape, utility knife and a pencil or pen.
Also you are going to want to pick out an interior material. This can be anything from felt, silk, velvet, leather or just left as plain wood, it is all just personal preference. With any of the materials that you use make sure that you can easily bend and manipulate the material into the nooks and crannies of the wooden jewelry box.
This is concludes the first section of how to build a wooden jewelry box. In the next article we will be going over how to build the jewelry box and how to care for it.
